RELIEVE IBSD: First UK Interventional Virtual Trial : NIHR Patient Recruitment Centre, Newcastle in collaboration with the Newcastle Research Informatics Team, The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals FT

This is a digital transformation project resulting from the collaboration of two dynamic teams: the NIHR Patient Recruitment Centre Newcastle and the Trust’s Research Informatics team, both hosted by Newcastle Hospitals. The teams came together to develop and deliver the RELIEVE IBSD Virtual Trial, probably the first completely virtual interventional clinical trial in the UK. This has been a ground-breaking achievement for the UK NHS and is likely to inspire the future of research design and delivery, enabling more patients to access research opportunities and ensuring competitiveness of the UK in the global research landscape.
