Isolated but not alone: Communication in the time of COVID-19 : Somerset FT

Our Isolated but not alone initiative was our commitment to improving the experience of care for patients on our critical care unit and their families by keeping them connected and maintaining links with staff during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic which had forced us to close our doors to visitors.

A group of senior nurses who could not carry out their usual clinical duties due to the pandemic formed the Family Liaison Team. Their aim was to ensure lines of communication remained open so patients would be isolated, but not alone. The team evolved as the pandemic continued.
