Culturally Focused IAPT for Communities by Communities : City and Hackney ICP, North East London CCG, Mind, Derman, Bikur Cholim, Homerton University Hospital FT

This project aimed to increase IAPT psychological therapy access and recovery rates for BAME communities in primary care by developing small grass roots voluntary sector organisations into becoming fully accredited IAPT providers. Because the voluntary sector organisations selected were embedded in the African/Caribbean, Orthodox Jewish and Turkish speaking communities, the model was one for provision for the community by the community. Through collaborative working with our main NHS IAPT provider within an alliance structure, significant increases in access and recovery rates were achieved and new more culturally attuned therapeutic approaches were developed.
