Tip Top Teeth: Hospital-based Oral Health Prevention Programme : Chelsea and Westminster FT, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, City of Westminster, Public Health England (London)
In our Trust’s catchment population (see: https://www.chelwest.nhs.uk/about-us/links/Full-Report-A-Picture-of-Health-Sep-2020.pdf), almost 3 in 10 (28%) five-year-olds have visible signs of tooth decay. Our Oral Health Programme (OHP) utilises the opportunity of a hospital attendance or admission (for any reason) to improve particularly children’s oral health, through a combination of universal health promotion and targeted educational interventions. The programme is a partnership with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and City of Westminster (“Bi-Borough”) Public Health department, and supported by Public Health England (London). The key intervention areas include childrens’ and antenatal services. There is also some targeted work among older inpatients.
