Enhanced Supportive Care in cancer: Embedding service redesign, improving experience, making a difference : Clatterbridge Cancer Centre FT, The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospitals FT and NHSE/I Specialised Commissioning Improving Value and South West region teams

Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and Royal Devon & Exeter NHSFT joined the NHSE/I Enhanced Supportive Care pilot in 2016; promoting earlier implementation of supportive/ palliative care within cancer care to prevent and manage adverse effects of cancer and cancer treatment. (2) Since 2019 our collaborative has analysed the most comprehensive ESC data available; learning how ESC impacts on patients and systems, to facilitate ESC commissioning equitably.

ESC can save millions of pounds whilst optimising and improving access to supportive care. ESC brings improved symptom control, fewer unplanned admissions, more likelihood of completing chemotherapy treatment and longer survival; delivering 'what matters to me’.
