SUMMIT: ‘Systematic Multi-disciplinary Management of Investigation and inTervention’ : Royal Marsden FT

SUMMIT : ‘Systematic-Multi-disciplinary-Management-of-Investigation-and-inTervention’: our innovative multidisciplinary perioperative care partnership developed for global optimisation of complex upper-gastrointestinal (UGI) cancer patients during chemotherapy and potentially curative major resectional surgery at The Royal Marsden, serving a catchment population of 2-million, national and international referrals. Launched in October-2019, its core concept: ‘continuous multidisciplinary management’, a progressive envelope of MDT-care, not reactive linear-pathway interventions. It consists of two digitally-supported elements: Specialist Pre-chemotherapy assessment by anaesthetic, surgical-oncology, physiotherapy, nutritional and psychology specialists, and ‘SUMMIT’ meeting review, personalising patient pathways with continuous specialist support. Both processes key to delivering excellent patient care achieving the best possible outcomes.
